Drones Airlift Stranded Residents in Southern China Floods After Typhoon Maysak

More than 400 volunteer pilots used 300 DJI heavy-lift drones during July floods in China’s Guangxi region, delivering supplies and airlifting residents from rooftops where boats could not reach them.

During July floods caused by Typhoon Maysak in southern China’s Guangxi region, more than 400 volunteer pilots used over 300 DJI heavy-lift drones, including the FC200 model, to deliver supplies and evacuate stranded residents from isolated areas.

The volunteer pilots initially deployed the drones to drop food, water and medicine to villages cut off by the floods. As conditions worsened, the drones were also used to evacuate people stranded on rooftops in locations where boats could not reach them.

The operation involved more than 400 volunteer pilots flying over 300 DJI heavy-lift drones. The aircraft provided a critical means of reaching isolated communities after floodwaters disrupted conventional access routes.

The rescues were carried out despite being against the manufacturer’s usual rules for the drones. Their use in the emergency demonstrated how cargo drones can be deployed during disasters to deliver essential supplies and assist in evacuations when roads fail.
